Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Charlie Turner appointed Top Gear mag editor-in-chief

By Oliver Luft

BBC Worldwide has appointed acting editor Charlie Turner as editor-in-chief of Top Gear Magazine.

Turner, who also acts as creative editor for the motoring title, replaces Conor McNicholas who left the magazine in June after less than a year as editor.

The magazine’s former deputy editor Tom Ford, who also worked as road test editor of Car magazine and a presenter on Channel Five’s Fifth Gear, has been appointed as associate editor of the magazine.

Simon Carrington, publisher of Top Gear, said: “Charlie has been acting editor since the summer, and having done a fantastic job thoroughly deserves this opportunity.”

Prior to joining Top Gear Magazine in 2003, Turner worked at F1 magazine and Car magazine.

He takes over a title which has seen sales dip in recent months and which is currently planning a redesign.

According to the most recent figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, the title sold an average of 168,148 copies each month in the first half of the year – a drop of 5.5 per cent year on year.
