Channel 4 staff at 10-year low after compulsory job cuts

By paulmcnally

Channel 4 is entering 2009 with its lowest staff headcount in more than 10 years, and the broadcaster is looking to axe another 50 jobs on top of the 150 already announced.

According to The Stage, Channel 4 has accepted between 100 and 110 voluntary redundancies, and made 50 compulsory redundancies shortly before Christmas.

It now wants to make another 50 cuts, bringing its headcount down to about 750. A spokesman told The Stage: “We don’t want to have to come back to staff in the short to medium term to do another round of redundancies.”
