Centaur apologise over website error

By Press Gazette

Solicitor Andrew Milne has accepted a public apology and undisclosed libel damages from Centaur Communications over an article published on the website of The Lawyer magazine.

William Bennett, counsel for Milne, told the High Court the article, headed “Zaiwallasin £1.2m profit share row with ex-managing partner”, was posted on the website on 22 February 1999 and was removed on 8 June 2004.

Bennett said it reported allegations that Milne had behaved in an unprofessional manner.

“The defendant accepts that Mr Milne did not behave unprofessionally in any way,” said Bennett.

“Therefore, the defendant is happy to accept that the defamatory allegations made in the article concerning Mr Milne were false and wishes to apologise unreservedly.”

He said that as a mark of its regret, the company had agreed to pay Milne damages and to cover his legal costs.
