Channel 4 News will be broadcasting live from Africa using African journalists and filmmakers to get a fresh perspective on the 2005 G8 summit being held in Gleneagles next summer.
Channel 4 has broadcast similar “News from…” models in India and Iraq.
Presenter Jon Snow said: “At the heart of it all is an attempt to shift perspective. Next July we have a great opportunity to see the western world and Africa from the African perspective.
“We’ll report from Africa on what’s being decided about Africa’s future from elsewhere in the world- theG8 and EU summits in particular. We will see how these proceedings look to Africans in power and on the street.
This is a real chance for Britain to hear African voices as Western leaders determine their fate.”
Channel 4 head of news and current affairs Dorothy Byrne added: “Economic analysis will be one of the key features of the programmes, as will an examination of the causes of, and potential answers to, global poverty.”
Channel 4 News is looking at various possible destinations, dependent on technical resources and press freedom laws.
