BBC bosses came under further criticism this week over the coverage of the UK nations and regions, this time from the Welsh National Assembly’s Broadcasting Committee.
The committee pointed out that the slaughter of ‘Shambo the Bull’received more coverage on BBC network news than the 2007 Welsh Assembly elections.
It follows a report by the BBC Trust into its coverage of the four nations, which found it was ‘falling short of its own high standards’and failing to meet its core purpose of helping inform democracy.
Following the meeting committee member, Plaid Cymru AM Nerys Evans, said: ‘The network news we currently get in Wales is failing to keep the Welsh public informed and up to date with developments in public life. The clear solution is for the BBC to produce a Welsh version of its network news output.”
