Bath Chron secures Nicolas Cage exclusive

By Neil Vowles

The honour of turning on a town’s christmas lights is a privilege normally reserved for X-Factor contestants, pantomine stalwarts and soap actors rather than Hollywood superstars.

But thanks to the Bath Chronicle – illuminations in the city this year will switched on by Hollywood A-lister Nicholas Cage.

Cage follows in the illustrious footsteps of the Mayor of Bath, one-year-old competition winner Eloise Horton and Team GB sprinter Jason Gardener in turning on Bath’s christmas lights.

The Con Air star, who bought a property in the Somerset city three years ago, was first approached by the Bath Chronicle to do the ceremony when they doorstepped him and then posted a note through his letter box.

Cage is said to be “privileged and excited” to have been asked to lead the festive ceremony, which will take place on 26 November.

Chronicle editor Sam Holliday said: “We’re delighted we’ve been able to help secure someone of Nicholas Cage’s status for such a key event. Bath is a city of stars and we’re proud to have played our part in sprinkling a little stardust this Christmas.”

Emma Samways, a commercial videographer at the Chronicle, was involved in bagging Cage for the event. She said:: “I asked around the office for famous people from Bath and Nicholas Cage’s name came up so I decided to call his management company. He was our dream choice to turn on the lights. This is pretty special and he’s a pretty cool guy.”
