The Financial Times has appointed Charles Batchelor capital markets editor. He was previously a writer on the Lex column.
Batchelor joined the FT in 1978 and has held a series of positions, including UK companies reporter, transport correspondent and growing business correspondent.
Financial editor Jane Fuller said: “Charles has the perfect CV for this job. He comes from the Lex column and so has a strong financial and analytical background, but he also has wide experience as an industry reporter, which will help him make a sometimes technical area more accessible to readers.
“We have a very strong capital markets team at a time when the fixed-income market is booming.”
In addition, the FT has appointed Zach Leonard as managing director for the newly created Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
Ben Hughes has also been promoted to the new role of worldwide advertising director. Previously, he was director for continental Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
