Channel 4 News’s Sue Turton and the BBC’s Clare Balding are among the nominees in this year’s Royal Television Society Sports Awards.
Turton, who in 1999 became Channel 4 News’s first dedicated sports correspondent, is up against Gabriel Clarke of ITV Sport and James Pearce from BBC Sport in the sports news reporter category.
For sports presenter, BBC’s Balding is up against corporation teammate and ex-footballer Gary Lineker and Jon Desborough for Channel 4.
John Motson is in contention for sports commentator of the year with BBC colleague and former athlete Steve Cram and ITV1’s Clive Tyldesley.
Channel 4 dominates the sports documentary category, with The Flying Scot, about the legendary racing driver Jackie Stewart, and Naz – The Little Prince: The Big Fight, alongside BBC 4’s The Game of Their Lives.
Vying for the regional sports presenter or commentator award are Manish Bhasin of Carlton Television Central Region, BBC Sport Scotland’s Dougie Donnelly and Roger Johnson at BBC South.
Nominated for best live outside broadcast coverage are the Uefa Champions League Final on ITV1, the Commonwealth Games for the BBC and Channel 4 Test Cricket.
The RTS Sports Awards, hosted by Mark Nicholas, will be held at the London Hilton on 19 May.
