Worksop Guardian editor George Robinson has made a broadcast on his title’s website expressing his relief that the PCC has ruled in his paper’s favour after a complaint from the parents of convicted murderer Neil Entwistle.
“I’m very pleased with the PCC ruling as we have worked extremely hard to maintain a fair, even and balanced coverage throughout the whole story.
“We were acutely aware throughout of the sensitivities involved. It was a very difficult story to cover locally and I’m pleased that the PCC has officially confirmed that we have acted professionally throughout.”
The Johnston Press-owned weekly has followed every twist in the story of the local man who shot dead is wife and baby daughter in America and was convicted in June this year.
It sent a reporter out to the USA to cover the case and claimed a world exclusive when reporter Debbie Lockett interviewed Entwistle’s parents after the verdict was returned.
In July, Lockett wrote in Press Gazette about the challenges of covering the US trial.
