Interview on the spike
Rock band The Alabama 3 ‒ they of Sopranos’ theme music fame ‒ have accused us journalists of being dumb.
The boys sacrificed 10 hours away from excess and indulgence for an interview by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh for The Sunday Times to coincide with the release of their new album MOR. But it seems our strait-laced colleagues in Wapping didn’t really get it and rejected the piece.
Frontman Ron Sprague, aka Larry Love, told Axegrinder: “Journalists with brain cells get us but many of them think we’re a novelty act.â€
According to Welsh: “They have turned a crazed mirror on the UK’s mainstream cultural influences and parodied its derivative and genre-based music.
“It’s an astonishingly bold cocktail, combining the most radical and reactionary genres of popular music.
“It’s still hard for me to quite understand why the Alabama 3 aren’t one of the biggest bands on the planet.â€
So there you have it. It seems the cocktail was just too strong for the suits over at The Sunday Times.
