Europe’s longest established guitar title, Guitarist magazine, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month, writes Sarah Lagan.
In what is also its 250th issue, the magazine focuses on The Best of Everything, a feature compiling 250 guitars, amplifiers, albums, players and events that have defined the past 20 years of guitar playing. It lists great British Guitarists from The Smiths’ Johnny Marr, right up to Justin Hawkins of The Darkness.
Editor Michael Leonard said of the anniversary issue: “Britain has produced some fantastic guitar players over the years, though there’s a tendency – even by magazines like us – to focus on the talents who emerged in the Sixties, such as Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page and George Harrison.
“While Clapton and Page are on our list for their continuing achievements, we also wanted to salute some more modern talent – the likes of The Smiths’ Johnny Marr, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and Muse’s Matt Bellamy.”
The 250th issue of Future Publishing’s Guitarist is on sale now, priced £4.99.
