2006 Regional Press Awards winners

By Press Gazette

The Belfast Telegraph has won regional newspaper of the year at the 2006 Regional Press Awards.

The winners were announced this afternoon at the Royal Lancaster hotel
in London. The event, attended by editors and journalists from over 80
UK regional newspapers, has been honoring the very best in regional
newspaper journalism for more 19 years and was hosted this year by ITV
News Presenter, Andrea Catherwood.

Three
new categories have been introduced; Designer of the Year, Best Use of
Citizen Journalism and Publishing Innovation of the Year.

The
judging panel was chaired by Peter Sands, director of Press Association
Training, and made up of 51 highly regarded figures from the industry.

Ian
Reeves, editor of Press Gazette, said: ‘The Regional Press Awards
celebrate and honour the nation’s greatest journalistic talents and
each of the winners can be proud of the recognition that he or she has
received. Press Gazette is delighted to continue its long association
with the most prestigious event in the regional industry calendar.”
