Investigation of the year was the most popular category at the 2012 British Journalism Awards with more than 40 entries. The judges were particularly impressed with the quality of work on display and so opted for a longer eight-strong shortlist.

Global news agency Reuters takes on about 15 journalism trainees each year globally from about 2,000 applications. The application process opens in September and closes mid-December, with trainees starting the following September in the company’s newsrooms in London, New York and across Asia.
