Willie Mack has been named editor of The Oban Times.
Mack has also edited the Johnston Press-owned Southern Reporter and worked in Glasgow, the Scottish borders and in East London after starting his career on the Paisley Gazette.
He said: “The Oban Times is one of Scotland’s great local newspapers and I am delighted to have the opportunity to help write a new chapter in the history of this well-respected, popular title.”
The 80p Oban Times, which is owned by Wyvex Media, recorded an average circulation in 2013 of 13,549, according to ABC.
He told Hold The Front Page: “Ever since my first job as a cub reporter on the Paisley Gazette, I have always enjoyed the variety and richness of local newspapers. And that interest remains undiminished.
“These are both exciting and challenging times for the local press, but I passionately believe that local newspapers such as The Oban Times can still play a crucial and central part in informing and shaping the community – whether in newsprint or on a digital platform.”
