Charity Mencap has published a magazine written and edited entirely by people with learning disabilities.
Mencap
Matters, whose guest editor, writers and photographer were all
recruited from Mencap service users, will be sent out to 35,000 donors
this week. Edited full time by Robbie Buscombe, the magazine has
traditionally been written by Mencap staff to keep donors up to date
with how money is spent.
Buscombe said: “This issue shows the
ability rather than the disability and explains to our donors that with
a little support so much can be done.”
Guest editor Youssef
Abidat said: “Editing this issue is definitely the thing I’m most proud
of doing at Mencap. I really enjoyed working with my colleagues and
felt that they were really listening to me and taking me seriously.”
