Today’s statement from a Guardian Media Group spokesweasel contains the following outrageous assertion:
“It’s true that GMG cannot afford to sustain a substantially loss-making regional media business while pursuing the Scott Trust’s core purpose of securing the future of the Guardian.”
Their regional media business “substantially loss-making”? I don’t fucking think so. Even if they’re counting the money pissed away on Channel M and the idiotic American adventure, there’s no way the regional newspapers could be described in such a manner.
No, there’s only one “substantially loss-making” business around those parts, and that’s the Guardian and the Observer, propped up for years by a highly profitable local press.
Of course, if someone knows better …
