Kevin Ward, deputy editor of the South Wales Argus, is leaving the paper after more than 15 years in the job.
Ward has been appointed publisher of Newsquest Wales and Gloucestershire’s east Wales weeklies and takes up his post in the New Year.
He succeeds Peter John, who moves to west Wales following the early retirement of publisher David Evans.
Evans, whose career in journalism spans 40 years, has worked on every type of newspaper from daily to weekly.
Ward joined the Argus in 1989 as a sub-editor after working on weekly newspapers in Worcestershire.
He said: “I’ve been toying with the idea of moving into general management for a while and now felt like the ideal time to see if I could handle it. I feel it will provide me with a more holistic view of the business.”
His replacement is current Argus assistant editor Nicole Garnon.
