Liverpool Echo news editor Andy Edwards has been promoted to assistant editor.
Edwards takes up the role after spending the past six months seconded to the Echo’s editorial production department. As assistant editor, he will be responsible for setting up a new action line to help readers and their communities, spearheading and co-ordinating special news packages and investigations with a team of reporters, and initiating and managing campaigns.
Alison Gow succeeds Edwards as news editor after being acting news editor since she joined the paper from the South Wales Argus at the beginning of March. Gow was news editor at The News, Portsmouth, in 2001 and moved to the South Wales Argus after nine months, staying in Wales until she started at the Echo.
“It may sound cheesy, but I can’t believe it,” she said. “The Echo is such an enormous paper and I’ve always heard about the splashes they get.
Now I’m a part of it,”
