Two journalists and Tarrant among latest hacking claims

By Sarah Limbrick

Two journalists and TV presenter Chris Tarrant are among the latest figures to launch legal action against News Group Newspapers over the phone-hacking scandal.

Former People editor John Blake and The Observer’s policy editor Dan Boffey claim their phones were hacked by the News of the World, and are pursuing claims against the paper’s publisher and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire.

Blake started his career as a pop columnist on the London Evening News before rising to become editor of the People. His job as president of the Mirror Group in the US ended when Robert Maxwell failed to buy the National Enquirer as expected.

He later wrote a best-selling book about the Rolling Stones before starting John Blake Publishing.

Boffey has worked for various nationals including the Daily Mirror, the Mail on Sunday and The Guardian.

Steve Wallington, former husband of Coronation Street actress Tina Hobley, is also suing NGN, along with two other individuals, Susan Kirkham and Lisa Higson.
