Two documents which have come back to haunt News International

By Press Gazette

Two documents have come back to haunt James Murdoch and News International: the “For Neville” emai” and Clive Goodman’s letter protesting against his dismissal from the News of the World for hacking phones.

The emailed headed up “For Neville”, of mobile-phone message transcripts, proved that involvement in phone-hacking was more widespread at the News of the World. Supplementary wrriten evidence supplied to MPs this week by former News of the World editor Colin Myler and former legal boss for the paper Tom Crone contradicted James Murdoch’s evidence that he did not know about the email in 2007.

Clive Goodman’s letter appealing against his dismissal – which must have been widely seen within News international in 2007 – also came to light this week. It stated that he believed phone-hacking was widely known about and discussed in editorial meeting at the New of the World.

Meanwhile, a further letter sent to MPs by former News International legal boss Jon Chapman has described James Murdoch’s evidence to MPs as very misleading.
