Tindle Newspapers has bought nine free newspapers in Dorset and Somerset – the latest in a string of newspaper and magazine acquisitions over the past two years.
Sir Ray Tindle has announced the acquisition of six ‘View From’ titles from Lyme Media & Events along with its Weekender titles in Crewkerne, Chard and Ilminster.
The news comes two months after Tindle acquired two monthly magazines in Surrey and Hampshire from local publisher Life Magazines.
The company has now bought around 30 titles since the start of the recession.
In December it acquired the Chew Valley Gazette from Northcliffe subsidiary Bristol News & Media and in November it launched the Chepstow Review.
Last summer Tindle urged his editors to launch their way out of the ‘ghastly recession’
The new Tindle titles cover Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester, Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis, and all full-time staff will be transferred to Tindle.
‘We are delighted to add the View From titles to our expanding group of community newspapers,’said Tindle.
‘They fit perfectly with our ethos of hyper-local publications and have a strong readership and loyal advertising base upon which we hope to build.”
