The Times has appointed former Mixmag editor Tom Whitwell for the newly created position of communities editor on its website.
Meanwhile former Wall Street Journal Europe journalist Jennifer Howze has been appointed as the site’s lifestyle editor.
Times Online editor-in-chief Anne Spackman said: “Tom and Jennifer both have vast experience in delivering high-quality, essential information to niche audiences, audiences who are passionate about their particular subject and who know what they do and don’t want to read.”
Currently working for healthcare website Dr Foster, Whitwell was previously deputy editor at the Face, Mixmag editor and news editor for Ministry magazine.
He is also the founder of musicthing.co.uk, a blog for musicians.
Howze is currently senior editor at iVillage.co.uk and prior to that was in New York, where she worked at TheStreet.com and Allure magazine. She has also written for the Wall Street Journal Europe and various Conde Nast publications.
Last week The Times launched new comment blog Comment Central and The Note, a downloadable daily business briefing, available as a printable pdf file
