Glasgow’s Evening Times has launched an ambitious campaign to raise £1m for the city’s children’s hospital, writes Martin McNamara.
The year long “Magic Million” campaign was launched with a three-page special report and a poster front-page featuring a young patient being treated at the Yorkhill Hospital for Sick Children.
The money raised from the Evening Times will go towards providing specialised monitoring equipment for the hospital’s new intensive care unit and equipping two family rooms.
The campaign is being co-ordinated by award-winning feature writer Ann Fotheringham.
Evening Times editor Charles McGhee said: “We never cease to be amazed at the generosity of our readers – and their ingenuity in dreaming up new ways of raising money. In 2001 we asked them to raise half-a-million pounds to build a Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre but they more than doubled that sum enabling the centre to open just 18 months later.”
