Threat to CMPi trainee scheme

By Press Gazette

Fears were mounting among journalists this week that The Builder Group’s graduate trainee scheme is to be scrapped, writes Ruth Addicott.

CMPi is in the process of integrating The Builder Group and the Barbour Index following its £79m takeover in July, a move affecting around 260 staff.

Although no immediate plans to end the course have been of?cially announced, sources say there is concern that the scheme will not continue next year. According to one source: “Lots of people are under the impression it is being scrapped.”

The scheme does not guarantee journalists jobs at the end but has been successful in producing PTC Young Journalist of the Year award winners and several top journalists.

Staff at The Builder Group are expected to remain at their of?ces in the Docklands until space becomes free at United Business Media’s HQ in Blackfriars in 18 months.

CMPi declined to comment.
