Over at Wapping, Axegrinder was interested to hear that Rebekah Wade has promoted Chris Pharo, after 15 years at The Sun, from news editor to head of news ‒ filling a job that has been vacant since the departure of Paul Field.
Pharo started out his journalistic career on the M4 somewhere near Bracknell and has, as they say, “been around the blockâ€.
He joined The Sun as a reporter before becoming night news editor in 2001 and then replaced Sue Thompson as news editor in 2004.
Pharo enjoys the good life and late night partying ‒ but I understand his bosses hinted that if he behaves he could be in line for the title of associate editor (news).
