Union leaders have warned of possible industrial action at ITN after being told that 64 jobs are to be axed.
Bectu, which represents broadcasting workers, said it was “very disappointed” at the planned cuts.
Consultations will now be held between the company and unions and Bectu said it will meet with its members next week to decide their response.
Bectu general secretary Gerry Morrissey said: “At this stage, we’ve had no information in relation to how ITN intends to produce news with 64 less staff.
“We are now in a 60-day consultation period, but we remain completely opposed to any compulsory redundancies.
“Before the end of the consultation period we will be reviewing where we are, and at this stage I cannot rule out rule out industrial action.”
