£10 million revamp of Times website unveiled

The Times today announced a £10 million relaunch of its website Times Online.

According to News Corp, the cash has been spent on design, IT editorial and marketing ofthe new site which went live today.

In a statement, The Times said: "Founded in 1996, Times Online has grown to become one of the most read newspaper websites in the world with more than 10 million unique monthly users. "The site has been profitable since 2002 and is free to view. As well as a growing UK audience, Times Online has an expanding international readership, attracted by the newspapers' reputation for news, views, expertise and outstanding quality journalism. The new site builds on its strength in reporting world issues such as global warming, the Middle East, US politics and international business with new multimedia content."

Times Online editor-in-chief Anne Spackman said: "The new site has been created by the world's leading web designers in partnership with our own in-house team. We have listened to our audience and looked at our competitive set and developed a dynamic multimedia website centred on news plus views - those of our own writers and our users. Times Media has fully embraced the cultural shift to digital publishing and 2007 will be a year of constant innovation as we continue to introduce new content and capabilities to the site in the coming months."

Times Online publisher Zach Leonard said that the new site "delivers extremely sophisticated technical capability for our advertisers, sponsors and partners, such as contextual and behavioural targeting."
