Paul Lewis to stay at Guardian to run web project team

Award-winning reporter Paul Lewis is to stay at The Guardian and take charge of a new multimedia team.
Lewis, who was due to join The Times next month as a "special correspondent", will instead remain at Guardian News & Media to lead a small team of journalists who will experiment with using online tools to develop multimedia storytelling.
A Guardian News & Media spokeswoman told Press Gazette: "Paul is a first-class journalist and we're very pleased that he's taking up this key role in the newsroom...
"Plans for our new special projects team are still being developed. Dan Roberts, who takes over as the Guardian's national news editor next month, will be working with Paul to appoint a small number of staff with a range of relevant skills from within the newsroom and we will be advertising internally for these posts shortly."
In March, Lewis was named reporter of the year at the British Press Awards for a series of stories about the death of Ian Tomlinson during the G20 protests.
The stories revealed that Tomlinson, who was a newspaper vendor, died last April after being struck from behind by a policeman and thrown to the ground while walking home through the protests in London
The award was the second major press prize to recognise Lewis. in November he collected Bevins Prize for investigative journalism – the Rat Up a Drain Pipe award – at the Society of Editors conference for his stories about Tomlinson’s death.
