Former Arena editor Greg Williams joins Wired

18 November 2009

Former Arena editor Greg Williams is to join Condé Nast as the executive editor of its glossy technology magazine, Wired.

Amongst a string of editorial changes on the title, Williams joins from Details, a high-end men's magazine published by Condé Nast in the US.

Williams, who will take up his new post in January where he'll report to editor David Rowan, has previously held senior roles at both Esquire and Arena magazines. He was appointed editor of Arena magazine, which closed this year, in 1999.

The following year he moved to New York to launch two magazines for Dennis Publishing including Maxim Fashion.

Williams is also the editor of The Esquire Book of Sportwriting and is the author of four novels.

In other changes, associate editor Ben Hammersley has decided to cut his time commitment to the magazine to allow him to pursue other ventures and has been appointed as Wired’s new editor-at-large.

João Medeiros joins the magazine from Physics World where he has been features editor since April 2008. He’ll be the magazine’s new Start section editor.

Wired editorial assistant Charlie Burton has been promoted to assistant editor to oversee the Play culture section of the magazine.

Tom Cheshire, who graduated from Cambridge University this summer, will replace Burton as editorial assistant.
