Reed Business Information cuts 35 jobs

Reed Business Information, which publishes New Scientist, Farmers Weekly, and dozens of other magazines, is cutting 35 jobs – including at least two in editorial, Press Gazette understands.
The 35 proposed redundancies “are guided by the long-term structural needs of our business”, according to a statement.
RBI will not reveal how many redundancies are in editorial, but one member of staff told Press Gazette just two journalists were definitely leaving.
Those two, due to leave in two weeks, are thought to be at Flight International magazine.
Described as “the world's leading aerospace weekly”, the magazine was founded in 1909, and is the oldest continuously-published aviation news magazine.
Another member of RBI editorial staff has been offered a new role, with the same salary but reduced responsibility.
The company statement said: “Reed Business Information UK has announced the proposed loss of 35 jobs due to redundancy.
“While we regret the loss of any employee and always seek alternatives to enforced redundancies, these changes are guided by the long-term structural needs of our business and are also necessary for us to remain competitive in the face of an increasingly challenging marketplace.
“We will support impacted employees during the coming weeks as they pursue opportunities both inside and outside the company, providing them with competitive severance benefits and career transition assistance throughout their redundancy consultation periods.”
In December, the proposed sale of RBI by parent company Reed Elsevier was postponed.
Reed Elsevier said RBI was still considered a non-core asset, and it would attempt to sell again in the “medium term”.
