Cruise holidays weather recession as new mag launches
27 October 2008
A new national magazine covering Cruising is set to launch next month with national distribution.
Cruise International's publishers - The Chelsea Magazine Company – are betting that the cruise holiday sector will remain one of the more recession-proof parts of the economy.
A spokeswoman told Press Gazette: “The cruise sector is booming. More people in the UK go on a cruise than go on a skiing holiday.
“We’ve researched it thoroughly talking to the cruise lines and travel agents – and they haven’t seen any decline in the market yet.”
The new title will be published six times a year and has nationwide distribution in newsagents, supermarkets, travel agents, spas, hotels and ports.
It has a £3.75 cover price and a launch distribution on 4 November of 50,000.
According to a spokesman, Cruise International will be: “A high-end glossy travel magazine with an emphasis on cruising. It will be destination based.”
It is being edited by Philippa Howard – who will be the only full-time journalist - and the publisher is Steve Ross. Freelance travel journalist Sue Bryant has been a consultant on the project.
