A new Irish Sunday tabloid is scheduled for launch this autumn – a Sunday version of the Irish Star, writes Des Cryan.
Despite the highly competitive state of the Sunday tabloid market, Star managing director Paul Cooke said he was relying on “a strong brand and a loyal core readership”.
The Star’s current circulation is close to 110,000 copies a day. Cooke said the Sunday market had been growing steadily and he foresaw much more potential for growth.
The co-owner of the Star, Independent News and Media, also owns the biggest-selling Sunday tabloid, the Sunday World.
Star editor Ger Colleran said he believed both titles could flourish.
