Evening Standard royal correspondent Robert Jobson has been poached by the News of the World to become its new royals editor.
He takes over a post which was vacated when Clive Goodman was jailed in January last year after being found guilty of intercepting the mobile phone messages of royal aides.
News of the World editor Colin Myler praised Jobson as a ‘vastly experienced royal correspondent”. A start date has not been revealed.
Jobson was shortlisted for a British Press Awards scoop of the year prize in 2006 after breaking the news for the Evening Standard that Charles and Camilla were to wed. The same story won the London Press Club scoop prize. He is a former assistant editor on the Daily Express.
Goodman, who was sentenced to four months in jail, is now working for the Daily Star.
