A pair of intrepid reporters from the Staines News took to the streets to launch a campaign for local man Jon Tickle, who is facing eviction from reality TV game show Big Brother.
The stunt was dreamt up by reporter Patsy Duffy, who was joined by chief reporter Tom Shaw who wore a sandwich board carrying pictures of the game-show contestant.
Both also wore T-shirts bearing the slogan “Staines News says keep Jon in the Big Brother House”.
Tickle has been lampooned in the press as boring and has been nominated for eviction from the house by his fellow contestants for three weeks in a row.
Duffy said: “While Tom walked up and down, I did a bit of a vox pop outside one of the shopping centres. We enjoyed it and actually got a really good reaction.
“Big Brother has become one of those annual summer things which people get hooked on.
“It’s a bit like football because whether you watch it or not you know who all the characters are.”
Responding to the criticisms of Tickle, she said: “I think he is just being himself, I find him quite an interesting character to watch. All his housemates may want him to go but the general public love him and want him to stay in the house.”
Content editor Judy Parsons said: “We like to be writing about what people are talking about and they are undoubtedly talking about Big Brother.”
