In the old days of journalism some of the best scoops were picked up
during sessions down the pub. But as newspapers moved from town centres
they dried up. Now Knutsford Guardian editor Sue Briggs has revived the
tradition by setting up a staff rota to host weekly two-hour
“surgeries” in different pubs. Following press day, the staff at the
paper will mingle with the locals and find out what’s happening in the
area.
The first reporter to go on duty is Andrew McCreaddie
(above) who suggested the idea. For the time being Briggs is staying
off the lunchtime pub rota. “I don’t think my shorthand is up to it
these days…” she confessed.
