By Press Gazette

Sports journalists around the world have voted Britain’s Kelly Holmes their Sportswoman of the Year for 2004.

Holmes,
who achieved a gold medal double at the Athens Olympics, winning the
800m and 1,500m, topped the poll organised by the International
Association of the Sporting Press, which has members in 145 countries.

In addition, Holmes has been awarded the Sportswoman of the Year diploma by UEPS, the European association of sports writers.

Holmes
will receive both her awards during the annual general meeting of the
Sports Journalists’ Association of Great Britain on 20 April.
