Ofcom has advertised two new local FM commercial radio licences for the Solent region and Torbay.
The
Solent area will comprise most parts of south Hampshire, east Dorset
and the Isle of Wight, and the southwestern corner of West Sussex. The
area is likely to contain an adult population of around 1,250,000.
The
Wireless Group, which owns the national station talkSport, is to bid
for the Solent licence. This follows its successful bid for the new
Edinburgh FM licence in December last year. Its allTalk FM application
for a new speech radio station in Manchester was submitted to Ofcom on
9 February.
The Torbay licence will cover an area with an adult population of around 200,000. Deadline application is 5 May.
