Sir
Nicholas Hewitt, the chairman and managing director of the Barnsley
Chronicle, is to replace Stephen Parker as president of the Newspaper
Society.
Sir Nicholas has been president of the Yorkshire
Newspaper Society and chairman of the Regional Newspaper Advertising
Bureau, the Yorkshire Newspaper Awards and the Quality Newspaper Weekly
Newspaper Promotional Group.
Paul Davidson, who has been chairman
of Newsquest since 2003 and chief executive since 2001, will become
vice president. Both men will take up their roles from 1 July.
