A curious omission in the Sunday Timesmagazine, where the admirable AA Gill and photographer Tom Craig set off to very north Norway to spot polar bears courtesy of posh travel company Abercrombie & Kent.
After much drama, including the pair getting stranded in some appalling weather, the prey is finally spotted a mere 300 yards away. But where’s the fucking picture of the bear?
We have an atmospheric shot of base camp, a blizzard-bound pic of collapsing tents, a labelled-up Gill in his cold weather finery, but of the polar bear – the very point of the entire expedition – there is nothing.
What happened? Are the layout subs simply inept or did the poor bloody snapper’s fingers drop off? I don’t know, but I think we should be told.
