Smaller mags run is growing in size

Cosmopolitan: handbag size success

Cosmopolitan is to increase the number of smaller “handbag-sized” copies on sale in London following the success of its travel size format last year.

Cosmo’s publisher, the National Magazine Company, is planning to publish an extra 35,000 copies of the smaller-format April issue, taking the total print run to 85,000, in addition to its standard-sized copies. The small format will also have a reduced price of £2.60 compared with Cosmo’s standard price of £2.85.

The regular format will be bagged and sold with a mini version of Cosmopolitan Hair & Beauty March/ April 2004 issue. Cosmo has introduced a sex therapy page as part of its “passion package” and there are 31 pages of fashion.

Marie Claire is also believed to be looking at price and size, following the success of Glamour and the impact its marketing has had on the sector.
