Shortlist for 2006 Magazine Design and Journalism Awards announced

By Press Gazette

The shortlist has been announced for Press Gazette's revamped Magazine Design Awards (MDA) and the newly launched sister event, the Magazine Journalism Awards (MJA). Both awards celebrate the magazine industry’s wealth of creative visual and editorial talent across consumer, customer and business to business publications.

The two independent judging panels, chaired by magazine doyenne Sally O’Sullivan and comprising 40 highly experienced magazine industry representatives, will meet for stage two of the judging process where, after round table debate, winners will be decided in a secret ballot vote.

Congratulating the finalists, Sally O'Sullivan said: "British magazines are amongst the finest in the world and this is, again, proved by the fantastic standard of entries in this year's Press Gazette Magazine Awards.

"As all of us in the business know, success is the result of team excellence and it has been exciting to see such excellence alive and well at every level and in every discipline. All finalists should feel immensely proud of their journalistic talents; the competition is high and reaching final decisions not easy."

The overall Magazine Journalist of the Year award will be awarded to one of the winners from the individual categories and announced at the ceremony on 26 October.

A special award being inaugurated this year is the Magazine Icon of the Year that will be judged by both MDA and MJA panels who will vote on the person or the brand that has achieved iconic status in 2006.

All winners will be announced at a glittering evening celebration dinner at the contemporary and stylish Riverbank Park Plaza on Thursday 26 October 2006. Booking forms are available from www.magazineawards.co.uk
