The role of the Scottish information commissioner could be streamlined and merged into a new organisation under plans by MSPs.
Information commissioner Kevin Dunion has written to the committee of MSPs proposing the shake-up to outline reasons to keep his £1.5m office, which employs 24 staff.
“It is important to recognise that the Scottish Parliament has passed a well-crafted law, which has been successfully brought into effect and is gaining international recognition,” he wrote.
“Any proposed changes to the structure, governance and accountability of the Scottish Information Commissioner should enhance and not detract from this performance and reputation.”
The MSPs are due to meet today to discuss the changes.
