Scotman to axe tabloid S2 section

By Press Gazette

The Scotsman is scrapping its tabloid S2 section and taking the content into the main paper. Instead of 20 tabloid pages, there are expected to be six broadsheet pages, which Emma Cowing will continue to edit.

Redundancies have not been ruled out among the 25 S2 staff. Group editorial director John McGurk said: “At the moment we have said that we expect minimum fallout.”

He added: “We think we will be better off incorporating S2 into the main paper which gives the paper much more flexibility. S2 was a pretty bold and courageous thing to do but it was launched in 2000 and times have moved on. It’s now a question of making the most of the newsprint available to us.”
