Royal supplement produced in hours by County Press

By Press Gazette

Within five hours of the Queen and Prince Philip leaving the Isle of Wight after an official visit, County Press journalists had finished a 16-page souvenir supplement.

Most of the weekly paper’s 27 editorial staff were involved in covering the seven royal engagements and producing the pullout. Five teams of reporters and photographers were deployed.

Editor Brian Dennis said: “Despite one or two minor problems, it all went very smoothly and by 6pm subs had their copy and we had chosen from the hundreds of photographs taken.

Three hours later the last pages were sent to Johnston Press presses at Portsmouth.”

The supplement was printed on Thursday morning and dispatched to Aylesford where the County Press is printed Thursday evenings, for insertion.

It was back on the island as usual by early Friday morning.

“This was the first time the Queen had visited the island for 17 years and we were determined to make the most of it,” said Dennis.
