Rowson to lead Hull sports team

By Press Gazette

Stuart Rowson, former football writer of the Grimsby Evening Telegraph, is to become sports editor at the Hull Daily Mail.

Rowson joined the Telegraph as a sub-editor after leaving university. He spent five years at the paper, during which time he was promoted to football writer.

He worked on a number of campaigns, including the Save Our Soccer campaign, which was backed by Fifa president Sepp Blatter as well as Sven-Göran Eriksson and numerous major football teams.

The campaign aimed to improve discipline in amateur football teams and resulted in an official six-point code of conduct, ratified by Fifa.

Rowson, who will take up his new role on 1 March, said: “This is an exciting time for Hull in terms of sport. I hope to take the paper a step further and I look forward to justifying the amount of sport that’s going on here.”

He added: “I can’t wait to get started. I am really young to be an editor but at the same time I am excited about taking on the challenge.”
