RTE chief news correspondent Charlie Bird has appeared for the first
time among the station’s top 10 most highly paid television presenters.
With an income of 138,000 euros (£94,800) for 2003 – figures which
the station is obliged to make public – the newsroom journalist is
among the few RTE employees paid handsomely.
Almost all the other
top earners are on contract, including Miriam O’Callaghan, the
presenter of the current affairs RTE 1 television programme Prime Time,
whose earnings amounted to 144,000 euros (£99,000).
RTE paid its ten 10 earners a total of 2,262,000 euros (£1,555,000) in 2003.
Late
Late Show presenter Pat Kenny, with 343,000 euros (£235,700), came
second to 2FM radio presenter Gerry Ryan who netted 483,000 euros
(£331,850) to top the list.
