Regional focus for national statistics

By Press Gazette

The Office for National Statistics is for the first time going out into the regions of England and to Wales to launch its annual regional trends publication.

The tour starts on 2 March in Newcastle and moves to Leeds, Birmingham and London in the first week. It will then visit Manchester, Nottingham, Norwich and Gatwick. In the final week it will be in Plymouth, Cardiff, Bristol and Southampton.

David Mander, senior press officer for the Office of National Statistics, told Press Gazette: “This is part of our drive to help the media in the regions get better access to and make better use of our statistics. We will be showing people how they can get official statistics free at their desktop. We are also demonstrating how they can get useful information right down to a very local level.

“It is the first time in 38 years of publishing regional trends that we will be going to 12 regional centres to launch the publication from the viewpoint of the region rather than trickling it down from a London briefing.”

For more information on the tour, contact the ONS on 020 7533 5712.
