The Romford Recorder was named paid for newspaper of the year at Archant’s internal award ceremony.
Editor Mark Sweetingham, who has headed the title for eight years, said his team’s “hunger for success” had paid off.
The Hitchin-based Comet won free newspaper of the year and the Ipswich Evening Star’s Mark Bulstrode and James Fletcher walked away with the journalist and photographer of the year awards respectively.
Archant Specialist’s Pilot won the magazine category.
The Eighties-themed event was held at Alexandra Palace with DJ Simon Mao and Eighties throwbacks Toyah, Nick Hayward and Belinda Carlisle.
