Readers of Newcastle daily newspaper The Evening Chronicle have donated more than £20,000 to help refugees in Sudan.
The paper teamed up with UNICEF to launch an appeal for people in the crisis-hit Darfur region of the country.
Editor Paul Robertson said: “Like everyone else, we couldn’t help but be moved by the disturbing images and stories that have been coming out of Darfur.
