Racing Ahead Weekend claims 22,000 launch circulation

Racing Ahead Weekend has averaged full price sales of 22,000 copies per week in its first month.

Launched on 24 October the Saturday paper sells for £1 and covers racing for Saturday and Sunday. It features racing cards in time-order form to bring to an end ‘constant page turning for time-pressed punters”.

Editor and former staffer on The Sun’s racing desk Stephen Mullen said: ‘Our long-term sales target is to sell between 20,000 and 30,000 copies per week so to be doing that from day one is ahead of all expectations.

‘We are especially encouraged that our weekly sales have remained pretty constant through the month which bodes well for the future.”

In 2004 Mullen left The Sun to become launch edit the monthly monthly racing title Racing Ahead published Liverpool-based E4 Media. Racing Ahead weekend is an off-shoot of that title.

Its’ main rival is the £1.60 daily Racing Post which has an average circulation of 67,005.
